loved loved loved this hotel. it is about a 10-15 min walk from the city center but the surrounding location is awesome. the continental breakfast was good and the rooms were extremely comfortable.

The room was clean and comfortable. We took a taxi from the train station as we did not want to haul our luggage. The next day we walked into town. It was probably a 15 minute walk but was easy to find the sites we wanted to see. We were very happy with the breakfast buffet. They had a nice selection of foods.

I really love this hotel. The location is great and quality of the room is perfect. Breakfast is really good. However, there is a room for improvement in terms of services at the front desk.

This hotel was just what we were looking for at the end of a busy vacation. It was quiet, comfortable and the food was excellent. The only disadvantage was the fact that we chose to arrive by taxi from the central station. The hotel's site implied the taxi would cost about 90 kroner while in fact the cost was 210 kroner, by the meter in the cab. Use of the T-ban is convenient, but it is a 250 meter uphill climb from the nearest station to the hotel and the station does not have an elevator for the baggage. Otherwise the hotel was delightful and the neighborhood beautiful.

Couldn't fault the hotel at all, friendly staff, clean rooms and brilliant breakfasts. Great location, just around the corner from bars, shops and metro station!

Had a great 4 nights here, very comfortable beds and enjoyed the selection at breakfast very much. The hotel has a clean, simple and stylish design which adds to the ambience, and the staff were both helpful and friendly.

This hotel was very nice and pleasant. The rooms are small (typical of a European hotel), with very tiny bathrooms (cruise-ship sized, with stand-up shower), but comfortable for two adults. The business center and internet is free and they have a nice breakfast with very typical Scandinavian food and also standard continental style breakfast. The metro and bus stops are very conveniently located a couple of blocks away, so it is easy to navigate to other parts of the city. Also within easy walking distance of several cafes and restaurants. There were a lot of tour groups that showed up after we checked in, so the breakfast room got really crowded in the mornings, but it was never noisy elsewhere. There are not any alarm clocks in the rooms, so plan to bring a travel clock or arrange for wake up calls.

This was a very nice hotel Great price A touch far from Stureplan, but a very reasonable walk Doesn't have the best view or anything, but it has great rooms and a very good location

It was my first time in Stockholm and I stayed 5 days. My favorite part about the hotel was the delicious breakfast with the tasty Swedish herring. The fitness room and business center were top quality (at no extra charge). The sauna was also very good. Postcards were sold in the lobby. The metro is a few blocks away. I would stay here again.

The hotel has a very good location in the new part of town but not too far from all the other islands. The rooms although fairly small are fully equipped with a desk, free wireless network,tv etc and are extremely clean comforting (the bed being one of the most comfortable i have slept in!). There was a great choice at breakfast from cereal to a fully cooked breakfast all included in the price of the room booking

We were heading on a cruise that left from Stockholm and wanted to spend a few days ahead of time seeing the city. The Hotel Birger Jarl was perfect. The hotel was very nice, the location was within easy (15 minute) walking distance of the old city and palace, and within a 5 minute walk of a pedestrian only road containing lots of restaurants, coffee bars and shops. Everyone at the hotel spoke perfect barely-accented English (as did almost everyone in Stockholm) and they were quite helpful and efficient. The breakfast buffet was outstanding--plenty to choose from and nicely displayed. It did get a little crowded early in the serving time, but after about 9:00 a.m., it was much less busy. Free computers with internet access in the business center. Would definitely recommend and stay here again!

A first class hotel with first class service. The breakfasts were superb with an amazing choice. The bedrrooms were on the small side but spotless and well manitained. The hotel is slightly out of town but a nearby frequent bus service is available. Hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant.

The room was very clean and the staff there were very nice. Breakfast, internet accses etc. were all perfect.

All members of The Staff were fabulous! The room was comfortable and I love the fact that Sweden's tap water is better than US bottled water I especially enjoyed the buffet breakfast and the excellent coffee!!!

The hotel was very clean, located near a convenient metro station and staff was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the queen bed was two twins pushed together - not the ideal situation for a couple traveling together. The included breakfast was nice and the hotel was well within my expectations for the price.

The front desk personnel were great.

The hotel is a 100 - 180 sek taxi ride from the central station in the centre of Stockholm. Very nicely decorated, clean and friendly. Staff were helpful and spoke good English. Lush bed, big breakfast, nice showers etc. My gripe with the place is that the rooms are small for what you pay, especially as I bought a business room, thought Id have more room for my pound. Secondly the rooms were really hot, the only way I cold reduce the temperatire was to open the window fully. Not a great sdelection of room service food either. But still a great place to go see Stockholm.

Very central location - walking distance to shopping and harbour. Some good restaurants nearby. Staff very professional & friendly Very good breakfast.

Wifi worked well, Good Area, plenty of Bars and Restaurants

Hotel Birger Jarl Stockholm was undergoing a Stockholm Design Week exhibition makeover during our stay there. This was unfortunate as the constant noise levels from early morning to evening made it impossible to enjoy the otherwise lovely lobby bar. The rooms were big and beds comfortable, we travelled with 2 children and the staff were friendly and helpful when we needed to wash up bottles and heat up milk.

A great hotel in what is a great location. Even though a 10 minute walk from the central station it is still central to everything. Apart from the room needing better heating it is one of the best we have stayed in. Staff were freindly and helpful and amenities more than exceeded expectations.

The seats in reception are extremely comfortable, however the conversation was a bit dull. Regarding the rooms, I refer you to a comment received at the time "(T)hat was very nice".

The Birger Jarl hotel is a nice hotel.The room we stayed in was small but perfect for a short city break.The room was spotless with complementary coke and water and choclate everyday.The hotel is about 15-20min walk to the harbour where the sightseeing tours leave from.The breakfasts are very good every morning and are always busy,the bar is small,but the bar staff were very friendly and courtious

My husband and I stayed here for a holiday weekend and were very pleased. It's not right in the city center but still within walking distance to the train station, shops, restaurants, etc. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful and the room (while small--it is a European hotel after all) was comfortable and had everything you needed. The buffet breakfast was amazing although it does get quite crowded in the restaurant in the mornings. Overall, we'd definitely stay there again!

Staff couldn't help enough, very clean, lovely buffet breakfast, a small but useful gym, very close to all the shops/restaurants/clubs/markets and Stureplan square, but about 20 minutes walk from Stockholm Central station. All rooms have nice samsung LCD tv's, cant fault rooms at all, only thing they are missing are wi-fi. We will be trying to book the same hotel for New Years Eve 08/09, miss it already .....

We only stayed one night but wound up stashing our bags there for 4 days while we took a ferry to Estonia. The breakfast buffet was excellent, good wired internet connection, small but clean room. Area is in the business district (a 15 min walk to the tourist area) but therefore excellent weekend room rates.

Of course Stockholm is an expensive city so this isn't a cheap hotel, but it includes a decent breakfast, free wi-fi and a very comfortable, stylish room. Staff were also great. The only downside would be that I don't consider it to be close to any of the tourist sites of Stockholm. You have to take the subway to get to these.

After my one night at the Birger Jarl, I was disappointed I couldn't stay longer. Everything was perfect, from the large bed to the immaculate bathroom. Location was good, and the staff could not have been nicer. My only slightly negative comment (not really a negative) was that it didn't have the charm of a smaller inn or B&B, which I usually prefer -- it was more "antiseptic" and generic, as most chain hotels are. But I would highly recommend it for anyone needing a room in downtown Stockholm.

I was very pleased with my stay at the Birger Jarl. The rooms are modern Scandanavian, clean, and very pleasant. The food in the hotel restaurant is excellent and a very good value compared to local prices. The morning buffet is wonderful. It's located in a quiet part of the city, just a block or so from the subway, and the old town is just 3 subway stops away. This is a great place!

More like a 3 star hotel, especially in terms of the friendliness of the service staff and quality of the room furnishings. Most reviews claimed a superb breakfast...The spread was fine, but we had just come from a 4 star hotel in Helsinki with a much better breakfast with better quality foods. I was surprised not to find smoked salmon at this hotel breakfast, which is pretty much a standard in these parts of the world.

Whilst the hotel was lovely and the service fine, the main problem is that this hotel has NO AIR CONDITIONING!!! We stayed in a boiling hotel June day and had to sleep all night with the window open. This would be fine if you were situated in the middle of nowhere, but we were in the city centre! At least they didn't charge us for the water from the mini bar. This hotel would be fine in Winter but do not stay there in Summer.

Perfect hotel for business and vacation travelers. Excellent business center. The rooms are very comfortable and the food in the restaurant is outstanding. The service everywhere in the hotel was first class.

No decorations in room, felt stark and incomplete. Bed was comfortable and heated towel rack was nice to dry our wet clothes. The breakfast that is included is great. Front desk staff were not warm but the bar staff was nice. Would be best for business trip or short stay. Close to subway and bus stop. 15 min walk from downtown. In a nice area.

Room was clean and nice. Hotel a bit difficult to find using Mapquest, but found it on the second try going round on that block. Walking distance to Central Station if you don't have a lot of luggage. Excellent breakfast!

As advertised, my room was uniquely designed in modern Scandinavian mode by a Swedish architect - the palette was magenta, gray and chartreuse. Very comfy. Though small in the Swedish way - loved it. Breakfast kicked ass. An amazing assortment - either Swedish or continental. The location was perfect for me - near the T-Bana or 10 minute walk to the Glen Miller Cafe for jazz. Cafes and good food & shops even closer. Facade of the building and my view of the roof and ugly contemporary building adjacent won't win any awards (ask for view of Tulegatan), but not deal breakers.

Friendly staff, well run hotel. Huge variety of choice for breakfast but a bit frantic as hotel was full and everyone seemed to be having breakfast at once. Nice location, restaurants nearby.

I travel and work remotely by choice it's a great hotel for entertaining - the bar is great - lot's of folks choose to hang out there - the room is more than you would expect for the money - the location is great - a few minutes walk from the stureplan and from odenplan, with buses, metro available
